HDD’s (Hard Disk Drives) the modern day CCTV video cassette.
All D/NVRs store their footage on an internal hard drive. Most use a SATA hard drive, this stands for Serial Advanced Technology Attachment and is the method by which the hard drive connects to a device.
Computers also use a SATA hard drive but D/NVRs and computers are different.
Unlike a computer your D/NVR is designed to run 24 hours a day with constant data transfer onto the hard drive. For this reason it is important that you use AV grade drives specifically designed for a DVR rather than standard computer drives which have a tendency to fail prematurely.
How many days footage will my CCTV hard drive store?
One of the most common questions asked, the fact is it depends on several factors such as:
- How many cameras are on the system
- Format (H264, H265, H265+)
- Recording quality/resolution
- FPS, (Frames per second)
- Type of recording, (Motion/Alarm, 24/7 etc)
Check out our FaQ’s page for help on these factors
